Ground radome plays an important role in the ground radar antenna system, the ground radar systems are generally located in the bad environment, such as mountains, desert, coastal, etc., It will lead to long time exposed in the rain, snow, hail, dust, salt spray, etc., which greatly reduces the life and the efficiency of the antenna, especially for precision tracking radar system. The ground radome major role is to protect the radar antenna from the external environment, to ensure the radar system work properly.Radome will cause a decline to the antenna performance. To ground radome, due to the larger size, generally using the block method of production, blocks will bring a series of seams on the radome surface. Seams need bear the mechanical properties of the structure, the material is different from other uniform parts, this will form different media interface on the seam position, affecting the antenna performance. In order to reduce the radome effects to the antenna system, the radome electrical design is necessary. Radome electrical design generally includes uniform flat-panel design, seam design and performance evaluation of the entire hood. And the plate design have a more mature plate theory and practical application, seams and the entire radome design in theory and practice is not yet mature. With the development of the radar antenna system, the requirements of the radome increasing, the influence of the seam has become can not be ignored, seam technology has also become a key ground radome technology.The development of ground radome seams follows with the radome. From the soft to rigid radome, and from metal to media radome, the seams changing their form and specification. The radome seam research mainly contains two aspects; one is the influence of the block division, another is the seams forms and specifications affect. Both of two aspects are to be considered in the radome design.In this paper, simulation method will be conducted to research the seams performance of ground radome. Through built the simulation model, the real radome seams will be simplified, using the HFSS software to compute the performance of the different forms and specifications seams, obtain the seams parameters affect the radome performance and achieve the purposes of optimal design the radome.
