Since 1980's, the national wide education and scientific research networks have been set up one after another in many developed countries, and have become the most important state infrastructures in these fields and greatly promoted the rapid developments there. In China, the government has paid great attention on the educational informationization. Since 1994 we began to invest and set up the China Education and Research Network (short for CERNET). With the promotion of this program, the constructions of Campuses Networks in our country have been developing rapidly. But what campus networks shall we set up? How to put in into practical use with high efficiency? And one thing more, how to organize, construct and manage the information resources on a campus network? All these issues still remain problems for us to recognize and solve.In this thesis, the author tries to describe in detail the whole process of the design and construction of the campus network of the Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Vocational School (GZPVS), with the view of the concept of the system and its related network techniques, and based on the backgrounds of its design, construction and practical use. First of all, the thesis starts with the introduction of its importance and the related concept, combined with the analysis of the needs and requirements of the school for this system. Further, it puts forward the basic objects and overall principles. And then in the way of analyzing the requirement of this system it introduces in detail the basic techniques, the structure of the network, the transfer medium and the three layers exchange techniques etc. All these form the theory basis of the system's design. And at the same time, the emphasis is put on the system's applicable and practical qualities, by describing this network in terms of its design, structure style, network level structure, VLAN technique, sorts of equipments and structured cabling system. Consequently, a clear introduction of the whole system is given in detail in order to achieve the result for building an advanced, reasonable and practical campus network. At last, a brief summary is given on the design and implementation of the network, as well as the problems observed when the network was constructed.
