Vlan Technology Research In The Campus Network,

With the rapid growth of Switch technology from 1994 to 1995, VLANs technology has recently become one of the confirming functions provided for LANs' resolution with the capability of switching, which is paid more and more attention and has bright market prospect. It is now being widely used in major enterprise networks, campus networks, intelligence communities. The reason of VLANs' wide usage lies in the next three categories: ( 1 ) VLAN technology provides the flexible combination mechanism of network section and organization, which means the web sites in the network does not depend on its physical location, but can be added into various logical sub-networks according to the actual need; thus achieved the function of group control of network users; ( 2 ) VLANs solved such problems as the operations of adding, deleting and moving sites in the segment , and it's convenient for network maintenance and management; ( 3 ) The ability of VLANs' forming firewall is so strong that it can meet the most strict safety need, thus it can take the place of router's many functions. Although VLAN technology has a very bright prospect, it still has some practical problems. The hardest one is that in the past several years VLANs has been and in the coming years it still will be provided by the sole provider who owns the patent right, thus switches made by other providers can not be totally compatible with VLANs, which in the end will in some degree limit the impliment and utilization of the final customers.This thesis provides the reader with the research of VLANs implimenting mechanism of current mainstream 3-layer switch, and the analysis of VLANs utilization in switching network , taken the example of the planning and construction of campus network of Henan Telecommunication Training Center.There are 5 chapters in all. Chapter One discusses VLANs' practical use and developing tendency ; Chapter Two introduces the the definition and marking method of VLANs by the IEEE802.1Q standard, the dynamic registration protocol of VLAN and the operating principle of VTP; Chapter Three discusses the two communication methods among VLANs ( through routers or through 3-layer switch); Chapter Four deals with the method of forming the campus network and its layers' construction; and the last chapter gives VLAN's resolution for the campus network, including the division of VLAN sub-network, the planning of VLAN ID, the dynamic distribution of VLANs addresses, and the routing tactics among routers ( centered routers or distributed routers), access control among routers , and the achievement of campus network billing system through VLANs+WEB...
