Wireless sensor network is a kind of network system that uses many small sensors deployed in the monitoring area; it transfers and controls data through wireless communication, and has find a wide range of applications in industrial production, environmental monitoring, smart home and many other fields. Wireless sensor network demands a low power consumption and low cost wireless communication technology to support numerous widely distributed sensor nodes to work coherently. The ZigBee technology meets all these requirements and therefore provides a suitable wireless communication solution for sensor network. In this thesis, firstly, we carefully analyze the advantages of ZigBee technology and study the IEEE802.15.4 protocol standard and the stack architecture of ZigBee core protocol. We then use the ZigBee technology as the core of the wireless sensor network technology and develop a practical data acquisition system. This system can avoid many inconveniences when collecting data in some large factory floors, such as the high cost of human time, data management confusion, and the harm to humans caused by industrial environment and so on.The development can be divided into three parts: hardware platform design, software implementation, and GUI management system based on a personal computer. The first part includes signal acquisition corresponding to a variety of models sensors, the design of the external data transfer interface, power supply modules and other external practical circuit. Software part of the work includes the formation of wireless network and data uploading from distributed nodes. A preliminary test on single node and multi-node sensing data of network temperature show that the system can be able to complete data acquisition by wireless better.Finally, we design a management system with GUI on PC. End users can update data coming from the ZigBee network through this interface which provides the functionalities of reading, deleting, changing and other treatment. This GUI also has login password to ensure data security and review flexibility.Through this designed system, data acquisition staff can check and manage the entire sensor network's data in the office; it enables remote real-time monitor to the sensor nodes distributed in the industrial environment.
