The handling and stability of automobile is an important guarantee for safely driving. Generally speaking, this performance needs to be examined in the process of developing new models. The traditional assessment method is that testing the physical prototypes in automotive proving ground. The high cost and risk lead this method adversely for the automotive products to come into the market in a short period of time. To improve this situation, this thesis will establish a set of three dimensional visual simulation system for vehicle handling and stability. The system which based on virtual reality technology can carry on simulation and analysis to digital vehicle models before the prototype to be manufactured. The designer can evaluate the feasibility of design proposal according to analysis results. This approach will improve the success rate of product development to a large extent.Simulation and analysis to vehicle system dynamics are the foundation of the project. ADAMS has an unparalleled advantage in this respect. This thesis will establish a dynamics simulation model in ADAMS/Car module. After that, the front suspension system will be simulated and optimized in the module and the hunting driving performance will be analysed and evaluated based on the model. As is known to all, proving ground is an important place to test the driving performance of an automobile. This thesis will construct a fully equipped and multifunctional virtual proving ground using Multigen Creator software. The driving task of proving ground will be completed in Multigen Vega software. The graphical interface which named"Lynx"in Vega can provide convenience to configure an Application Definition File for visual simulation system. Because the file can only meet the demand of simple visual simulation system, the thesis will built a three dimensional visual simulation system for vehicle handling and stability by writing C++ code. The automobile can finish three types of visual simulation tasks in the system. They are traveling along a fixed path, hunting driving with parameter actuation and interactive roaming.The investigation indicates that the handling and stability of automobile can be only evaluated objectively using vehicle dynamics simulation and analysis software like as ADAMS. But the three dimensional visual simulation system which synthetically utilize dynamics simulation and virtual reality technology can provide favorable conditions for subjective assessment of the handling and stability. In the system, users can be positioned into the virtual environment and participate in and experience the process of hunting driving. In addition, the visual simulation system built in this thesis has outstanding performance on the respects of immersion, interactivity and fidelity, which provides an important guarantee for the accuracy of subjective evaluation results. In brief, the development of three dimensional visual simulation system for vehicle handling and stability not only makes up the deficiency of traditional design method, but blazes new trails for the design concept of automotive products, which makes the system having an important application values in the actual production.
