Along with the rapid development of vehicle technique and the continuous improvement of road condition, vehicle running speed increases significantly, and people pay much attention on vehicle's safety performance. So, the study on vehicle handling and stability which is closely related to vehicle's active safety is becoming more and more important. The traditional research method mainly use real car to do experiment. It wastes huge cost and some experiments are difficult to do because of its risk. Due to the fast development of computer technology and precision construction of the car dynamic model and the tire model over the past decade, it is possible and necessary to use computer simulation technology to study vehicle handling and stability.Based on vehicle handing dynamics theory and virtual reality technique, this paper uses VC++ to develop vehicle handling and stability virtual simulation system. Its main contents are as follows:1. Study on the present research status and research methods of vehicle handling and stability and describe in detail tire theoretical mechanics model and nine freedom dynamics model which are suitable for studying vehicle handing and stability. Lastly, the solving method of dynamics differential equation and its programming realized technique are given.2. Summarize the key techniques of using MultiGen Creator software to build model, introduce building method of vehicle model and establish car, truck and bus 3D solid virtual model.3. Introduce the basic frame of MultiGen Vega application procedure and research on the key techniques of Vega visual simulation, such as vehicle movement control, collision detection technique, self-defined movement model and real-time display of vehicle motion state information.4. Complete the development of vehicle handling and stability virtual simulation system. This system realizes the virtual simulation analysis of steering wheel angle step input test, steering wheel angle pulse test, steady steering characteristic test and single shift-line test. Take ZK6100H bus as example, each test'characteristic curves and evaluation indexes are outputted.
