With the development of IC fabrication techniques, It makes the power density increase dramatically. Especially in 65nm technology, Leakage power start to become the mainly part of the total power, controlling leakage power is significant. In order to prolong the battery life of the portable device and decrease the cost of package, the power consumption should be considered in chip design. So the design of low power embedded microprocessor is one of the most important research areas.This article analyzes how to produce power and researches many kinds of low power design methods, also compare with recent advanced lower power strategies. Based on FT-X chip, The article researches and summarizes multi-vt and clock gating design methods, and bring out multi-power domains and power-gating design strategies. Finally, comparing with both methods, The result of experiment is received.This text includes main context as following:1) The article researches low power strategies during resent years,analyzes the characrestic and diffculties of these ways,finally,provides efficacious methods in order to make this strategy true.2) According to the require of lower power design,This text produce and achieve the strategy ,which includes Multi-VT and clock-gating ways .The report of design declare: this design not only meets the require ,but also reduces power of the chip in effect.3) The article also researches power-gating and multi-power domains design methods,which link the tool flow from Cadence company,and finishes the design.The result of experiment declare:the design,which adopt power-gating and multi-vt technology,.save more than 50% power.this low power design is very successful.4) Formal method validates consistency, which is comparing thelatest netlist and the old netlist,and then assure the realization of function.This text is based on FT-X project,makes the clock-gating and multi-vt design true in order to save power.then,according to reduce more power,the article provide the more efficacious power-gating and multi-vt design methods,finally,this complex design is carried out.
