With the continuous development of science and technology, computer technology has entered the Post-PC era. Although traditional devices for image acquisition functions well in all aspects and can meet general use, its high cost and large volume have limited its application in some specific fields increasingly. In the 21st century, embedded technology develops rapidly and plays more and more important role. Embedded system has a wide range of advantages, such as low cost, excellent flexibility, and low power consumption; thereby, the design of an embedded image acquisition device has prosperous application prospect.Linux is a free, open, mature as well as stable operating system and compatible with almost all popular CPUs. Besides, Linux provides powerful network functions. Most importantly, its core can be customized to be about 100 KB smallest, which makes Linux fits embedded system perfectly.Taking those advantages mentioned above into account, an embedded image acquisition display system is designed with Linux as operating system in this paper. This system consists of S3C2440 Processor, CMOS camera, LCD display, SD card and etc. S3C2440 acts as the core control device; CMOS camera collects audio images or captures screenshots of audio and then displays them in LCD; at last, images are saved into SD card after JEPG compression. Incorporating advantages of low cost, smart volume and being easy to use, this system owns bright application future in industry field.
