The Application Of Data Mining In Optimization Of Curriculums Setting

Although data mining is widely applied in marketing, banking, the stock market and other areas and has achieved great results,it is less used in education.The traditional colleges' curriculums are determined mainly by rich experienced teachers based on previous experience in teaching and Enterprise research. In recent years,with the increase of students,the school students and teachers increased sharply,and students' information management system, the educational management system and personnel management system widely used in colleges,these systems' databases store a massive of data. And the school administrator's daily operation is mainly for the data query, sorting and backup,so the data hidden in the mass of information is not used effectively.This thesis relies on the process of SVTCC(Sichuan Vocational and Technical College of Communications)creating national demonstrative college of higer vocational education based on the working process of the study field curriculum system reform project,by using the data mining association rule algorithm to mine the relationship between the Computer Department software major's courses,and come up with the ideas and methods to optimize curriculums.This thesis first introduced the data mining,data warehouse and the basic concept of on-line analytical processing and related technologies.Secondly,combined with the existing theory and technology to study the feasibility the data mining technique is applied to optimize curriculums.Then based on the SVTCC's students' scores,using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Anylysis to bulid a SVTCC students'score database.Finally,by using the association rules' classical algorithm Apriori to mine the relationship between the Computer Department software major's courses.By mining the students' score database,find the hidden cohesive relationship between curriculums,providing basis for school administrators and teachers when they are setting curriculums,thereby facilitating teaching reform,and improving teaching quality.This topic will help vocational college to run its own characteristic, improve quality and enhance competitiveness,after using this system,it will alsoprovide a useful complement to Higher Vocational College teaching management informatization construction.Preliminary use the system shows that:system design to achieve the expected goal and meet the design requirements.
