Curriculum arrangement is an important and very complex task of pedagogical management in universities. With the expansion of the enrollment scale of the universities in China, the number of enrolled students has increased a lot, causing an increase of classes and courses. Due to insufficient classrooms and teachers, it is already very difficult to make a curriculum to meet the diversified demands of the school, teachers, students and some other users, not to speak of a reasonable one, which may satisfy the multiple parties involved. Under such circumstances, it is truly significant to study the previous curriculum arrangement system and based on the existing problems and inadequacies, to make improvements and further design a scientific and effective automatic curriculum arrangement system, which can generate automatically a reasonable and highly satisfactory curriculum. And the automatic system is not only helpful for the offices of educational administration, but also a high availability for the normal operation of teaching management in universities.Randomness is the major deficiency of the current curriculum arrangement system. As a result, various individual needs are often not met, so that many education administrators have to use the semi-manual mode, i.e. after inputting the curriculum information, they have to operate manually according to the specific requirements of the teachers and the students. Although such kind of pattern may avoid the conflicts among the teachers, the students, the courses, the time and the classrooms with the curriculum arrangement software, but it calls for a very complex process and a great deal of work. And usually it takes a college more than one week to finish such a process, while the result still remains unsatisfactory. To improve the level of satisfaction, the author, having referred to multiple algorithms, especially the methods of genetic algorithms and backward algorithm, has eventually designed a new optimized algorithm. The new design has included the setups of individual needs for time arrangement and row arrangement, adopting SQL Server database system and JAVA language to create a new system of curriculum arrangement. Through performance test, the new algorithm has been proved effective in improving the efficiency and the level of human orientation in curriculum arrangement and at the same time, reducing the complexity of the arranging process. It can basically meet the needs of some universities for automatic curriculum arrangement and also provide a new perspective of studying college curriculum arrangement and a valuable reference for developing other curriculum arrangement systems in different universities. The ultimate goal of the new design is to automatically produce a reasonable curriculum which satisfies the multiple parties involved to a large extent.
