Personnel training must meet the challenge of the national economic construction and technological development and satisfy the talent requirement of social and business in the 21st century higher education. Therefore, many world-class universities have considered training the research, innovative talented persons as their common goal. And practice teaching is becoming increasingly important in higher education. A great many colleges and universities are also actively promoting the practice teaching reformation. They concentrate on constructing open laboratory and encouraging students to participate in innovative experiments. However, the complexity of manual management became a strong obstacle in opening Laboratory construction. This issue has designed and developed a laboratory management system based on campus card to support autonomous and intelligent management, reduce management complexity and improve utilization of laboratory resources.System combines the B/S and C/S architecture. The former is used in a web-based laboratory information management subsystem to implement the basic laboratory information management, experiment reservation management and equipment management. The latter is for the experiment table power management subsystem using embedded technology and RF (radio frequency) card read technology, with which users can enter the laboratory and control the reserved table power based on their campus card. The entire management is unmanned and intelligent. These two subsystems share the same database and using Internet networks communicate to complete data synchronization. The main work of this issue is as follows.1. To investigate and research the development and the status of laboratory management system, point out the defects and shortcomings of existing systems and analyze the general situation large-scale experimental center.2. To analyze functional and performance requirements of the system and describe the overall framework design. 3. To discuss the detailed functional design of laboratory information management subsystem. Then propose the database structure design, data standardization analysis, data synchronization design and communication protocol.4. To give the design proposal of power management subsystem based on Windows CE. To propose the hardware and software design of card reader module, scheme of power control coordinator, customization of operating system and embedded software design and development. In this system, the laboratory information management subsystem is based on ASP.NET framework; database is established on SQL Server 2005; the power management subsystem is built in S3C6410-based embedded development platform; reader module is on the basis of RC500; power control nodes communicate with the coordinator module using ZigBee wireless technology.Campus-card-based laboratory management system has and is not only limited to the advantages of web information management systems. Through the campus card and power management devices, the system establishes a close relationship between the laboratory management with people and equipments, improves the management efficiency of the laboratory and corresponds with the idea of building a green campus. With embedded platform reliability, timeliness and responsiveness of the system have been improved dramatically. In the meantime, system energy consumption and equipment costs have been reduced accordingly. Its operating system is Windows CE, which is stable, mature, scheduling effective, task management convenient and easy to develop. The data synchronization of the system applies network communications and wireless communications, overcoming disadvantage of serial communication such as the short transmission distance, slow transfer rates and other shortcomings. The system can make use of existing network interface to reducing the wiring difficulty.
