Real-time video monitoring refers to partially or wholly present the sound and video information in a specific area in people's visual sight, so that people can know about the information in this area on real-time basis, offering powerful proof for handling the affairs in the future. With the rapid development of science and technology as well as the consideration of social security, to implement real-time video monitoring becomes indispensable in human beings'life and work, whereas the promising development of embedded technology which prevails in recent years makes the combination of these two technologies become inevitable. Hence embedded real-time video monitoring develops by leaps and bounds.This dissertation first introduces the development history of video monitoring system, and the general flow of developing embedded system. Then it gives description to the structure of ARM minimal system as well as how to create the cross-compiler environment. Next the principle and transplantation of bootloader are analyzed, while it also explains how to transplant the Linux inner core to the S3C2440. Then it focuses on the collection of image data though the camera as well as the principle of RTP transmission, in which MPEG-4 compression standard is employed as the compression technology of the images since it is the most widely-applied standard in video compiling. Finally it introduces a very popular cross-platform C++ graphic user interface library Qt, by using which an interactive friendly monitoring user end is realized.This dissertation actualizes the functions of collection, transmission, display, storage and playback of videos. Most of modules are realized by using C programming. After testing, this system has good stability and maintainability and thus shows great engineering practical value.
