Along with the rapid developments of the embedded technology, the image collecting and processing technology and the network technology, as well as the progress of the people’s living standard, video acquisition and transmission system has been widely used in security, mine, transportation, household and other fields. People’s requirements to the system in terms of digitization, networking and intellectualization are higher and higher. It provides a huge market for us to apply the embedded video image acquisition and transmission system to the fields mentioned above. Therefore, how to design an embedded high efficiency, low power consumption, low cost, high intelligent embedded video acquisition and transmission system of product application is particularly important.Considering the actual demands to the current video image acquisition and wireless transmission system, and combining with the embedded technology, image acquisition and processing technology and network transmission technology, a low cost, high reliability of the embedded video image acquisition and wireless transmission system is designed and realized in the laboratory. This system fully considers the advantages of MFC multimedia processing module on ARM11and the peculiarities of embedded Linux operating system, such as open source, small kernel, high efficiency, and complete network structure.The system makes a PC as the host of the embedded Linux operating system and samsung S3C6410microprocessor as the target of development board. By transplanting the Bootloader, constructing cross-compilating environment, cuting and compilating the Linux kernel, and establishing Yaffs root file system, we construct the embedded software and hardware development platform. An external camera connected through USB interface located in the development board is used to collect the video image data, and this image acquisition module is run through V4L2video collection interface on the S3C6410microprocessor. The hardware codec module built-in S3C6410chip is used to encode and output the collected images in H.264format. Then video image data are encapsulated and packaged by the RTP/RTCP protocol and transmitted through WiFi module. In order to decode and display the video image data through an friendly manner, the design develops a human-computer interaction interface by Qt library which is a cross-platform C++graphical user interface on the PC. Finally, the system based on the above considerations is performed, and the results show that the design is reasonable, the video coding efficiency is high, and the image is smooth and stable. The system realizes the display, storage and playback of the video data.
