This thesis presented a method to design MCS-51 microcontroller based on SOC technology for the development of traditional MCU.The structure of the MCS-51 microcontroller is deeply analyzed, followed by determination of the level of the system classification scheme and the overall design ideas.This design uses the top-down method to design the digital system. The system is divided into some sub-modules which are easy to realize and use VHDL to describe those modules. Modules are connected to communication through port signals. After the designing, Quartus II is applied to simulate the function of each module, including all the top-level module and the sub-modules. Software simulation is carried out to testify the correctness, and programming file is downloaded to the FPGA device for hardware experiment. The results show that the design realized the MCS-51 microcontroller core, and is compatible with all of its 111 instructions, with high accuracy and practicability. The design of MCS-51 series microcontroller based SOC technology is genuinely accomplished.
