Self magazine is a fashion magazine committing itself to helping contemporary Chinese women who work or live in metropolis achieve their self-realization, which makes itself outstand over other magazines of the same type.This article attempts to use "body techniques" proposed by Marcel Mauss (1872-1950), French Sociologist and Anthropologist, to establish a theoretical framework, which provides us a view to analysis what is the body techniques built by Self and to deconstruct that body techniques with a historical and cultural angle. Attempt to outline the crisis behind the self-realization by contemporary urban women in China.
