Since the end of last century, the model male fashion magazine has gone through nearly16years of development from the initial stumbling, to the bold attempt and to the explosive development at present.In nowadays, the images of males shaped by the model male fashion magazine have become the most important references for those males who want to follow the fashion closely.Slightly make analysis, however, can easily found that past studies of male image, mainly concentrated in literature, film and television works.Research on male image of male fashion magazines are relatively few.In this paper, the author will take five years’Esquire, which from2007to2012, as an example to study the images of males mould by the fashion magazines. Applying qualitative and quantitative methods, the thesis attempts to analyze the images of males mould by the Chinese fashion magazines concretely from both the appearances such as hair style and costume and the characters such as values on career and love.The author will divide the images of males as the type of social elite and the type of flower boys. What’s more, with the theory of social gender distinction, the author will discuss how the two types of the male images could generate form economic, cultural and domestic aspects. Besides, according to the theory of consumer culture, the paper will interpret the interaction between the images of males mould by the fashion magazines and the male audience. Points out that male public offer material for men’s fashion magazine portraying male image, and male image portrayed by men’s fashion magazine lead men mass consumptionIn the end of this article, the author will discuss the problems existing in the image-building process of Chinese men’s fashion magazine, and put forward his own Suggestions and views.Put forward cultural need depth excavation, editing quality remains to be further enhance and we should fully grasp the media literacy of target audience.
