With increasing quantity, boilers are utilized in industrial filed as power equipment, serving for our daily life and production. There are kinds of control methods for the boilers such as traditional PID algorithm, fuzzy control that requires no accurate model and so on. The drum water level system, functions as subsystem of the boiler system, determines whether the boiler can run in normal operation state. The drum water level system requires frequent research to improve the system efficiency. For example, it is effective to improve the dryness quality and decrease the energy consumption in case that fuzzy control algorithm is applied into the steam-injection boiler. The paper researches the generalized predictive control algorithm for the drum water level system based on PSO algorithm, briefly describes several relevant basic techniques such as parameter identification, MATLAB simulation, WINCC control technology introduces some common control algorithms. Compared with traditional PID algorithm, the generalized predictive control algorithm exceeds considerably. Compared with usual least squares, the PSO algorithm does better for model identification and is able to recognize the model parameters accurately. The paper explains the generalized predictive control algorithm and the PSO algorithm in detail. This paper introduces the design process of a single value generalized predictive controller in system software design section and analyzes the craft process of drum water level system and control requirements. Making use of STEP7, the programming software for PLC S7-300,the generalized predictive control algorithm is implemented, and by WINCC, a simple system monitoring and control screen is realized. The simulation results validate the study design and feasibility of the system, meeting the expected design requirements.
