It was the foundation of foreign invested radio stations in Shanghai that symbolized the beginning of the broadcasting industry in China.Accordingly, Shanghai became the cradle of Chinese broadcasting industry.In 1920s and 1930s, foreign invested radio stations in Shanghai enjoyed a compact development, which also reflected the process fromits birth to bloom and then to gradual downfall.The development of foreign radio stations in that period provided an important foundation for Shanghai even Chinese broadcasting industry afterwards.In this paper, using the foreign invested radio stations in Shanghai in 1920s and 1930s as the research objects, the author tries to analyze how the special media form took root to the very sociocultural environment in shanghai, flourished and finally declined. Besides, the author seeks for the characteristic feature these radio stations showed in the course of socialization of shanghai, and then discussed proper experience in business to help modern broadcasting industry in China, by the research on the particular role these froeign radio stations performed in the designated media circumstances, and their function, programming contents and mode of business operation as well.
