Objective To investigate the therapy efficacy of the dredging-liver and wind-dispelling method for post-infection-cough with patterns of wind invasion of lung. Methods 68 cases of post-infection-cough were divided into two groups:treatment group (44 cases) and controlled group (24 cases). The treatment group has been treated with the dredging-liver and wind-dispelling method (Chinese medicine) for 2 weeks; and the control group has been treated with oral liquid Robitussin (Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, Chlorpheniramine Maleate and Pseudoe-phedrine Hydiochloride Solution) at the same time. The frequency and degree of cough and some symptoms, like itch of pharynx, dry, feeling depressed, etc. were observed and recorded at the beginning and the end of study; In addition, the two groups were made a following visit two weeks after finishing the course. Then made a compare of curative effect and sustained response between two groups by using SPSS statistics 18.0.Results The cough scores of both groups after treatment were lower than pretreatment, both hold great values for each groups obviously (P<0.01). And the treatment group was more significant than the controlled one. The scores Of cough and expectoration of the treatment group were significantly improved, and its total effective rate was 88.64%, much higher than that (62.5%) of the control group (P<0.05), which illustrates that the Chinese traditional prescription (the dredging-liver and wind-dispelling method) has better treatment efficiency to cure post-infection-cough than western medicine (Robitussin). The two groups' total scores of cough phenomena dropped sharply after the treatment. The treatment group had statistics advantage of pharynx itch and dry than the controlled one, which demonstrates the dredging-liver and wind-dispelling method (the Chinese traditional prescription) is effective in the treatment of post-infection-cough in the terms of cough, pharynx itch and dry. The two groups were made a following visit two weeks after finishing the course. Both of the groups had lower scores of cough phenomena and visual symptoms without any statistic meaning. It is considered to be involved in the self-healing tendency of post-infection-cough as well as the bias of efficacy evaluation index caused by patients'subjective perspectives. Conclusion The dredging-liver and wind-dispelling method is effective in the treatment of post-infection-cough, much better than western medicine oral liquid Robitussin.
