As an essential part in the vehicles'brake system, the vacuum booster plays a key role in the whole system and has direct relation with the drive safety. Thus most vehicle manufacturers require high quality of this part. However, many problems exist in traditional quality control systems of the assembly lines, such as lack of quality control data model, lack of complete and systematic quality control theoretical model and inability of real-time monitoring. New kind of quality control systems are needed for the auto component enterprises to overcome the problems mentioned above. For this reason, relied on practice of the project <<Flexible automatic assembly line of vacuum booster>> sponsored by Shanghai Automotive Industry Fund of Science and Development, this paper mainly deals with the application of modern statistical quality control methods on assembly lines.Starting from analyzing the technological process of vacuum booster assembly line, this paper defines the core indexes of quality control process; then based on modern statistical quality control methods, the assembly line's theoretical quality control model is established. Meanwhile, two new models of calculating the Process Capability Index are proposed based on practice of the line: Process Capability Index calculating model on condition of Flexible manufacturing and based on Gauge Capability, which will improve the accuracy and credibility of traditional evaluating model of Process Capability Index. The effectiveness of new models is tested based on case studies using real quality data from assembly line. Finally, a new quality control system of vacuum booster assembly line, which integrates multiple quality control methods, is developed on the platform of Visual Studio 2008 with principles of Multi-layer Structure and Modularization.Currently, the quality control system has been applied to the new flexible automatic assembly line and results have proved the successfulness of the system.
