Management Information system often short for MIS, is human-computer interactive system, which takes advantage of computer hardware, software resources and data resources. This computerized system is able to provide information to promote effective organization management, support business operations and decision making.Student information management system is a typical application of MIS in educational establishments to manage student data. Its development is critically depends on the establishment and maintenances of database and the exploitation of advanced application programs. The former required consistency and integrality and security of data. The latter requires complete functions of application program and user-friendly feature. Based on the above mentioned, using the object-oriented development kit by Microsoft Corporation Visual Basic 6.0 provides us the strong tools to access the database, which would help to develop a relatively complete database application and producing datas by ACCESS. Especially, the convenient, simple observation windows designed in Visual Basic 6.0 enable us to build up a prototype of system application in a short period. Then, The prototype could be modified and developed till deliver a feasible system to school users.This article firstly introduce the current development and application of the Management Information System home and abroad and describe the general design ideas and principles. Based on the analysis of demands, the essay offers the detailed design of the overall system and database. The development of this system will improve the efficiency of input, inquiry, maintenance, statistics, printout students'file and academic performance. Considering school administration embodies heavy workload of information management, overall modern management can be realized by the use of compterize management.
