Dvb-t System, Mpeg-2 Encoding And Decoding Program Design And Application

Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) is the standard of the digital TV, it was established by European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI) in 1993. After the development of the DVB-Satellite and DVB-Cable, the most complex terrestrial transport standard: DVB-Terrestrial was established. Base on the DVB-T technology, digital audio and video TV program broadcasting is well developing in many countries, like the TV top set and the mobile TV handset.This project was cooperated by the DSP lab of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Singtel Group, the Singapore national telecom company. With the support of the equipments in the both sides of the DVB-T transmitter and receiver, and the British, Singaporean digital TV program's testing environment, we finished the improvement work of the MPEG-2 data's coding, decoding, multiplexing and demultiplexing in the running DVB-T system.During the process of the project, I started my work from the MPEG-2 data's decoding. After the research with the MPEG-2 international standards, I designed the system's receiver, including the audio and video of the MPEG-2's demultiplexing and decoding, the decoded MPEG-2 data's re-coding and re-multiplexing, in order to meet the requirements of the system. The new designed receiver works more efficiently, the demultiplexing, decoding parts were combined, and the re-coding and re-multiplexing modules were also united too. In the testing session, the new receiver was fully worked and gained good comments by the colleagues from the Singtel Group.My directors and I explored the applications of the MPEG-2 audio and video's re-coding process. By the standards of the DVB-T, we have to decode the audio and video at the system receiver, before the audio and video been combined, we transformed the audio to the text, after the language translation and the synchronization with the video, the new function describes as the media program with automatic subtitle was designed.
