In China, banking reform has been last for years, and it gets great success. The asset structure of business banks has been developed; business banks also have accumulated valuable enterprise management experience. Business banks will face more acute competition. In this circumstance, the competitive intelligence work in banks has not been prepared to meet competitive demands; even no competitive intelligence system has been set up. The author fines out some reasons on the problem, the manager of bank does not have definite competitive consciousness and realize the importance of the competitive intelligence work, but the most important reason is that there is no valuable method to set up the competitive intelligence system for the manager. Based on the value chain theory, this thesis tries to construct a competitive intelligence model. The model will be useful for the development of the competitive intelligence system in business banks.The content of the thesis is as follows:Firstly, by using theories of the competitive intelligence, the information management, and the management of value chain, the thesis figures out the structure and characteristic of business bank value chain, and uses profitability ratio to analyze business banks' profit performance of different business activities. This will reveal the mechanism of the business bank value chain.Secondly, the thesis tries to make up the structure of the competitive intelligence work and analyze the competitive intelligence system of business bank which is the technical supporting platform of the competitive intelligence model.Thirdly, the thesis tries to find a way to reform the bank structure by using value chain theory. Base on the related factors, the competitive intelligence model consists of a central competitive intelligence department in the head office, seven competitive intelligence centers, and many agencies in subsidiaries and sub branches. The analysis of the mechanism of the model is based on the construction of business structure and system platform.Finally, the thesis takes China Merchants Bank as a case to analyze and utilize the competitive intelligence model by illustrating the possibility of combining the value chain method and the competitive intelligence, and tries to discuss the broad applicability in practice. The author also customizes the model for China Merchants Bank and drafts the major duty of the competitive intelligence works.
