The rapid development of higher education makes colleges and universities be confronted with increasingly fierce competition, urges the governors of colleges and universities to make rational decisions. Colleges and universities personnel management is at the core and coordinative position among other management. After informationize construction and application for many years, personnel information management system has accumulated large quantity of historical data, thus makes it urgent to make further use of and analysis of these data so as to obtain more useful information, provide support for relevant decision-making, improve the management quality and level of various jobs in colleges and universities.Traditional database technology is difficult to achieve comprehensive processing and complex analysis of historical data. In this research, data warehouse and on-line analytical processing were introduced into personnel information management in colleges and universities, mainly by investigation method and software engineering method , the extraction, transformation and loading of the data reserved in the existing system were implemented , personnel information data warehouse and multidimensional data sets of S university were constructed by using SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services and other utilities ,thus enabled the analysis and display of the results of multidimensional data sets combined with Microsoft Excel. It also expanded the statistical functions of existing system, added the dimensions of data analysis. All these allow the decision makers to examine and understand the relevant personnel data in different dimensions and levels, conduct the trend analysis. By this, they can acquire more supporting information for the decision-making of research planning, discipline construction, talent cultivating and introduction, etc.In this paper, the basic multidimensional analysis on the quantity and quality of scientific and research information within personnel information of S university were conducted. Finally, some improvement suggestions were also put forward to S university's on-line personnel assessment system currently used.
