With the development of wireless communication technology, People demand high-performance, high-capacity wireless communication systems with the characteristics of high data rate, low power consumption and implementation complexity. In this context, Ultra-wideband technology attracted more and more attentions as it is regarded as a promising technology for next-generation wireless communication. While the research of Ultra-wideband technology go deeping, the implement of System On Chip (SOC) is the trend of the times. Meanwhile, CMOS technology continuously improved the characteristic frequency with the development of the deep sub-micron technology. It is significant to use CMOS technology to implement IR-UWB transceiver RF front-end. So, in this paper, we explored the implementation of IR-UWB transceiver RF front-end using CMOS technologyFirst of all, we do in-depth analysis and research about pulse used in impulse radio Ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) systems and the techniques produced it after referring to a great deal of references. This paper presents a single chip IR-UWB transmitter with characteristics of OOK modulation, low power consumption, low implementation complexity and low Die area, which transmits fifth-order derivative Gaussian pulse complied with FCC regulation. Secondly, we present a Non-coherent energy detection receiver which is an attractive solution for impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) systems due to the low implementation complexity. We also elaborated the component circuits, including the mathematical analysis and performance optimization of the Circuit structure. In this paper, all circuits are simulated in TSMC 0.25μm CMOS technology by Spectre RF simulator used in Cadence environment, and results of system simulation indicate that the performance of this circuit meets exactly with the design goals. Meanwhile, we use Cadence Virtuoso to edit IR-UWB transmitter and receiver RF front-end physical layout.
