With the rapid development of data business in telecommunication industry, the expectation from Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) has become even higher. The current SDH network is far from satisfaction in market competition and multi-services, thus the construction of MAN is urgently needed. At present the MAN transmission technologies are evolving and no specific one has yet got the dominance, however, MSTP has shown breakthrough in the field, based on SDH, MSTP can realize multi-services such as the accessing, processing and transmitting of TDM, ATM and Ethernet at one time and provide nodes which can be concurrently managed. Adopting MSTP can safeguard the current network system investment due to its smallest modification to it and satisfy the demands of multi-services in the coming years, thus it largely reduces the cost of network construction, operation and maintenance. Adopting MSTP, this article offers the design for Hejiang telecommunication transmission network optimization and enlargement with the consideration to the safety of network and feasibilities of efficiently supporting the new telecommunication services. The main results are as follows:1. It analyzes the functioning principles and key technologies of the MSTP and determines the desired technology.2. It analyzes the Hejiang telecommunication transmission network present situation existence deficiency, and carries on the analysis, the summary to the Hejiang telecommunication service demand, unifies the Hejiang telecommunication service and the existing network condition, works out the concrete network optimization plan, the definite network topology, has completed MSTP the network optimization design and realizes.3. It compares the current affordable MSTP equipments and offers the right choice for the design and finishes the network protection methods, synchronization system and network managing system designing.4. It compares the capabilities between different Ethernet cards in MSTP and offers relevant designs for Ethernet. 5. It gives the optimized network test running results and offers the corresponding assessment and analysis.The present paper completes not only enhanced the network reliability based on the MSTP optimized network, but also enhanced the network capacity, causes the network architecture to be more reasonable, moreover increases the mass data port, has satisfied the enterprise big customer to the data broadband business demand. Through the MSTP technology in the Hejiang telecommunication transmission network's application practice, confirmed the MSTP technology may widely apply in the current metro transmission network construction, for the technical transmission network's optimized dilatancy research with realized based on MSTP has provided the typical model.
