Mammary carcinoma (cancer) is one of the most common malignant one, as well as the most frequent type of cancer among women. Though the incidence in China is lower than that in the Western countries, it is creeping up at the speed of 3% annually. Within a decade at the end of last century, its prevalence surged by 38.4% in cities, which increased fastest among all kinds of cancers, particularly in Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin. Among all the developed cities along the coast, Shanghai suffered from it most. Health communication, which aims at improving health in the society, is efficient and useful to spread the knowledge of healthy and to influence the attitude and mode of modern life style, so as to prevent diseases, to better the living quality. The present study focused on the four variables to in EPPM, such as severity, susceptibility, efficacy and self-efficacy, to measure the Fear Appeal. I randomly selected 425 reports of mammary cancer published on the Chinese newspapers and magazines from 2000 to 2007. We found out that the knowing of mammary cancer was mostly reported on healthy professional newspapers. Where as, it appeared much less on the public newspapers, which enjoy the most of the readers. Further more, most of the reports remain at the method of threat. At last we reached the conclusion that the public media failed to spread sufficient knowing of prevention and treatment of mammary cancer. And most of the designs were at the comparatively elementary stage.
