As the speedy development of economic, the quantity of car has increased a lot, the problem of vehicle management and transformation is obvious. At the same time, the vehicle robbery and theft increased yearly, this will endanger the security and stability of society. In order to manage the taxi, public bus and couth bus; and to guarantee the security of the drivers, it is necessary to monitor these vehicles. But the vehicle is moving, it is impossible to use the traditional wire transmission method to transfer the image. While this can be achieved by adopting GPS carrier + multimedia collector.This thesis is combined with the practice project named《Research on multimedia collector》,as the superintendent of the project I have participated in the project from the project argument, project approving, project research, trial production to the product delivering to the users. And I design the hardware of the multimedia collector independently.After receiving the demand from the GPS carrier, the multimedia collector starts to collect image and carry on MPEG-4 compression, then the compressed image data is transferred to the monitor center via GPS carrier, after decompression in the monitor center the front-end image can be seen. And the multimedia collector can store the image itself if the network is wrong or some other failure happened, which is convenient to check reasons after the accident, so it acts as "black box" .This thesis introduces the system composition of the multimedia collector in general but analyzes the design achievement of the hardware/software of the system in detail. It also introduces the design requirements, operating environment, program structure and each module structure of the equipment.It is emphasized on analyzing the selection and design of the main hardware. The system uses DSP (Digital Signal Processor) to dispose the video digital image and adopts MPEG-4 compression algorithm. Compare this project with the other ones I have participated, it characterized by short research period and focusing on the utility and reliability (vehicle environment) more. And the multimedia collector applied for utility model patent, and got the patent certification in 2007 with patent No.894850.
