Streaming media is becoming a major part of Internet applications It is a technology that distribute multimedia information at networks. It changed the traditional way that users have to waste their time when downloading multimedia information, media streaming can displayed while it is being downloaded.In the popular Client/Server architecture, each user have a single link to the server, this way works well when the network workload is low. As the growth of users, the bandwidth of server will be a serious problem and becomes the bottleneck. As the network multimedia service get more important, some research agent and scholars are pay attention to network multimedia contents distribution. IP multicast could be the best way to overcome this drawback since it could let many hosts share one stream. However it deployment on the internet is still limited due to the protocol complicated and fundamental concerns. CDN through PUSH the contents to the edge of Internet alleviate the burden on the server and the network, but the high cost of deployment makes the ICP can not afford. In this situation, P2P media streaming could be a good choice since it can utilize bandwidth resource of host nodes to provide service to other peer nodes without changing the current deployment of Internet.P2P(Peer-to-Peer) streaming technology put the multicast function from network layer to application layer. In this paper we will discuss the P2P VoD(Vedio-on-demand) technology.Based on the research of other typical contents distribution strategy we proposed P2PXVoD.This strategy through use Family and Generation on a single multicast tree alleviate the burden of server and control overhead,so makes architecture with good scalability. In addition,P2PXVoD considers the integrity of recovering process of interrupted nodes.The result of NS-2 simulation proves P2PXVoD in some key points works well. Especially in server burden and control overhead.
