As a new project engineering, information system (IS) projects often failed, due to its dependence on knowledge and technology, and its serious uncertainty. Therefore, risk management has become especially important for IS. Our research, which based on the idea of risk classified management, took the case of Peking University campus user management system project, and discussed how to carry on risk classified management in IS project through its success and failures. We concluded that any risk factors shouldn't be ignored, as they are interacting each other, but not independent aspects. In a word, good controlling of each risk is critical to reduce the risk of the whole project. The article's content mainly include:l. research value, foreign and domestic recent study, the problems we want to study and the study goal; 2. introduced some basic concepts of IS system projects. risk management, such as project, IS project, risk, project risk management and discussed about common risks and risk management in IS system, using knowledge of risk classification management, in addition of basic strategies to deal with IS project risk; 3.through the risk management process of Peking University campus user management system project and analysis of its risk classification management, summarized its success and failure in risk management, so as to reference its experience for further improvement. The study conclusion is: (1) the current risk management theories can benefit for the practical IS project risk management; (2) synthetically considering many risk factors and controlling them is necessary for IS project risk management; (3) we should realize that there is inevitable connection between each risk factor. Controlling one risk factor has the impact on the effect of controlling of others.Under the analysis of a practical case, we intended to provide more intuitive experience for IS project risk management theories, as well as thorough discussion of applying these theories.
