This article mainly aims at the methods, procedures and results of the designing and realizing a hardware firewall. This project mainly studies using the embeded system VxWorks and embeded processor MPC860T to design and develop a network firewall. This article includes six parts as follows:1, this paper depicts the definition, structure, principle of work, routine inspection, basic function, special function and current development status of hardware firewall. Meanwhile, it introduces the source, characteristic and research content of the project, which is the basis of core CPU selection.2, this paper elaborates the way to construct the embeded system VxWorks, which includes the brief introduction of the VxWorks, planing the hardware platform, communication technology commonly used in. embeded system, debugging tools for emedded system development and the key problems requiring special attention in VxWorks developping procedures.3, the third chapter of this article involves the detail introduction of MPC860T CPU, including the brief introduction of PowerPC, the brief introduction of MPC860T processor, and working principle of MPC860T processor. With the introduction of MPC860 processor, this paper mainly analysis the system reset circuit, colock circuit, memory controller circuit.4, Chapter IV of this paper uses a systematic perspective to analyze the entire system design and development, which includes the System brief introduction, design specifications, primary design method, system diagram, and working principle, ect.5, Chapter V mainly studies how to design the hardware circuit basing on system demands; which includes the selection of chips, interface circuit design, and the problem requiring special attention during design and debug.6, the sixth charpter briefly introduces how to develop the VxWorks BSP of the hardware firewall system by transplanting the ads860 BSP which is provided by Wind River Corporation. And it summarizes the development and debugging methods of BSP, the question needed to be noticed, the method to create a new BSP and mistakes needed to pay attention to on design.7, Chapter VII briefly introduce the results and significance of the project.This paper is achieved on the basis of the practice and experiment. It successfully designs an embedded hardware system based on MPC860. By testing, the hardware system works well.The entire system runs well too after transplanting VxWorks.
