The Study, Based On Core Competencies Of The Library Of The Value Chain

Libraries are facing a series of big changes: knowledge-based society is coming; information technology is changing; competition in information industry is pierce; a globalizational society is coming. At the same time, libraries and its management mechanism are also changing.Therefore librarians researchers have to think about how to attain the social status of library and how to develop library to meet the higher requests from society. From 2000 till now, "core competence" has been considered a requested force to the fierce competition.Most researches on "library core competence" only focused on a certain aspect of library, not from a whole and systematic view. And so far there isn't an exact explanation for "library core competence" and how to build it, are not answered. Today's study of this topic just discusses the importance and necessariality of core competence.By collecting and analyzing related papers, the paper tries to give a explanation of library core competence and a structure of library core competence construction based on "value chain" and the essence of library core competence.Firstly, the paper gives a definition of library value chain based on the competitional background and the theory of value chain. After this, the paper analyzes the content, characteristics and valuation of library core competence based on the value-making resources in library virtual value chain. Then, the paper puts forward the essence and strategic structure of library core competence construction. The main innovative thoughts in the paper include two aspects: the definition of library core competence and strategic system of library core competence construction.In a word, the paper analyzes the definition and construction of library core competence broadly and systematically, which fulfills the blank of previous researches.
