Media industry covers the areas of information collection, production, and mass communication. To realize the function of being"the throat of the Chinese Communist Party", to resist the invasion of foreign culture and to win the fierce competition brought by foreign media companies, it is the strategic duty for China's media companies to grow fast. After years'rapid development, China's media industry is in a comparatively"golden period"now, however, it still lags far behind of its foreign peers. The reasons for such difference lays on many sectors, such as various kinds of barriers, historical problems, etc. All these hinder the healthy development of media industry in China. The author studies the current situation of media industry both in China and overseas. It figures out problems that have troubled China's media industry for years and presents several potential solutions for such problems. At present, the problems that China's media industry has to face are: conflict of bureaucratic HR system with market management system; government's direct interference into management and capitalization process; the interterence of too many administrative organizations caused the low efficiency. Besides, there are many other problems, such as regional barrier, narrow business scope caused by policy barrier etc. All factors mentioned above make media industry a high-risk business. There are few trans-regional and trans-media conglomerate appearing in China. The author is trying to find a way to lead China's media industry out of the current difficult situation. The possible solutions are: loosing the strict control by government and seting up the trans-regional, cross-media conglomerate; removing the limits on media companies'manipulation in capital market and enabling the media company to get direct investment from the stock market. The key is to allow the free movement of capital into media industry and increase the competency of China's media companies. To keep the stability of society, the government also needs to issue new regulations to set up the order under new circumstances. To author also suggests merger the administrative organizations to a single one, which is responsing for all cultural, media and information communications. To lift China's international influences, the author advises to enlarge the business scope of media companies.Constrained by the historical factors, execution of all reforms suggested by the author may take a long time. A compromise solution is put forward to meet the current needs of media industry.
