As China's press industry is experiencing reform and evolution, multiple policies of news have brought about unprecedented opportunities. Professional ethics in press industry is challenged by paid news, prevailing low media taste and sheer noise making/The moral is able to compensate wisdom, and wisdom never makes up for the absence of moral."Dante has said. The lack of professional ethics in the press has become an obstacle against the development of the press in China. The thesis first states the definition of professional ethics in the press, and then analyses the features of press industry, concluding on the significance of enhanced professional ethics. The author categorizes the loss of professional ethics in China press industry by scandalous media, prevailing low media taste and sheer noise making. Analyzing a number of case studies, the thesis points out that major reasons for lack of professional ethics in the press lie with the macro social backgrounder, politics, marketization of the press, inductive profits, as well as the absence of effective supervision system. Where there is a problem, there must be a way out. Despite various solutions available for diversified cases, there are laws that apply to all. In the last part of the thesis, the author proposes a solution for the issue, including disciplining the media, driving the issuing of laws for the press industry, building up right standard for news value, and improving audience's perception on the press."Nothing relieves publications from commercial interests, selfishness and opposition to public welfare but the highest ideal, responsible and legitimate action, right knowledge of issues involved and sincere sense of ethics."Joesph Pulitzer has said.
