Progress of society and science has provided opportunities as well as challenges for the education development. The traditional teaching method cann't meet the demands of this period. The new curriculum reform requires that we should update the teaching idea, transform the teaching method, and make students be the host of learning, furthermore, their creative spirit should be cultivated so as to make them form the ability of lifelong learning. The inquiry teaching aims at cultivating students'creative spirit and practice ability, which reflects and echoes the demands of the times.It is the effective way of the new curriculum, receives educators'universal attention and finally turns out to be one of the focal points in the reform.Computer education emerges along with the wide application of computer in all aspects of society. Programming is one part of computer education, which is conducive to the improvement of students'application ability as well as the cultivation of their logical ideation and innovative ability. Therefore, it goes without saying too much of its importance. However, the interviews of teachers and students indicate that both of them consider programming as a difficult part. Students generally think"programming is difficult to study", while teachers fell"programming is hard to teach". So new thought, new method and new theory should be explored to make programming teaching effectively.Inquiry teaching is the common tendency of the international curriculum reform. There are many researches about it. But most of them are about its implication, history, characteristics and so on. The cases and practices are about physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and so on. This paper is undertaken to use inquiry teaching in programming, for it can not only enhance students'interests in programming and improve teachers'teaching enthusiasm, but also enrich the theory and the practice of inquiry teaching.This paper utilizes many methodologies, such as investigation methodology, the literature methodology, education experimentation and so on. It first briefly states the background, present situation and the significance of the research, as well as the theory of inquiry teaching. Then it analyzes and discusses the curriculum aim, the organize form, the implementation condition, how to create the teaching context, the inquiry method and the teaching estimate of inquiry teaching in the programming curriculum concretely. We also enumerate three teaching cases. A comparative research was carried out in two classes in a college of Yangzhou , one as the experimental group and the other as the control group. Analyzes with SPSS software, the result indicates that using inquiry teaching in the programming curriculum could enhance students'interests in programming, improve students'independent-inquire ability, stimulate students to form correct scientific attitude, make their mentality more open and thought be stricter, enhance students'cooperate and exchange ability, improve students'question ability and increase students'programming grades. But, the influence of inquiry teaching to the students'programming study motive is not remarkable. Finally, I list some problems in the research and put forward several teaching proposals.Do system and thorough research on inquiry teaching in programming, on one hand, it can cause the programming curriculum aim carry out better, deepen the new curriculum reform and enable students to obtain all-around development and achieve the goal of essential-qualities-oriented schooling; On the other hand, it become the bridge between teaching theory and practice, thus has broad prospect.
