Real-time infrared image processing is the key technology of infrared image guidance. This system in this paper is a part of project called'the infrared image processor project'under the infrared image guidance background, which comes from the 209th Military and Industrial Institute.After studying recent domestic and international information, a lot of work on hardware designs of the infrared image processor project are accomplished, described as follows:1. The designs of the system and the whole hardware structure of infrared image processor are implemented. After analyzing and comparing some typical schemes, infrared image processor's structure is built as"double DSP + double FPGA + CPCI"mode. ADI's DSP chip TigerSHARC TS201 is used as a core processor in part of high-level arithmetic processing. Altera's FPGA chip Stratix II EP2S60F672I4 is chosen both as a core processor of low-level images pre-processing and as a key interface controller. High-speed CPCI bus is adopted as a bridge between the infrared image processor and the host computer.2. As the emphasis of this system, FPGA's designs are achieved, mainly as follows:(1) Image pre-processor module: FPGA is in charge of low-level image pre-processing and relevant control. Firstly, median filter and histogram statistic are employed for the raw infrared image signal in FPGA to improve SNR (Signal Noise Ratio). Secondly, according to the communication protocol of Linkport, pre-processed image is transmitted into DSP by FPGA.(2) DSP-CPCI connection module: FPGA is in charge of interface between DSP and CPCI. The final processing result out of DSP is transported to host computer by DSP-CPCI connector.The result of co-debugging indicates that normal infrared target can be detected, recognized and tailed successfully by the real-time infrared image processor, which is also testified that the whole system and core designs on FPGA are successful.
