Whether in defense electronics area or in production line testing and quality validation of the consumer electronic products, automatic test system is widely used. It can not only high-efficiently satisfy the requirement of test for large-scale equipments or complicated circuit boards, but also provide integrated diagnosis and process monitoring.Traditional test system needs specific test instrument to connect with UUT(unit under test), and then measure specified parameters under specified procedures. But generally, the specific instrument is very expensive and hard to operate. Test system based on V(Ivirtual instrument)technology can not only facilitate the completion of the functions of traditional test instrument, moreover, because of a large part of software in VI, users can change the software program to meet different demands. So, it is more flexible and powerful, and also, it is easier to connect with network, peripheral equipments and other applications, more convenient for data acquisition and control system. Therefore, test system based on VI technology is not only cheap and efficient, but also saves development and maintenance costs.First, this paper makes an introduction of relevant knowledge of automotive electronics, the UUT-ETACS product. And then, discusses and researches these relevant technologies: Automatic test system, VI technology, automatic test system based on VI technology, serial communication technology and the reliability design of embedded system. Based on the study of these theories, we design and implement this ETACS product automatic test system.According to system requirement analysis, we design and implement this system in the structure of PC(Personal Computer)and MC(MicroController). PC and MC communicate by RS-232 protocol. PC, an ordinary computer, is primarily interactive with users. Users send test command to MC by using PC software, then PC waits to receive test data which is uploading from MC, after receiving data, PC software analyses the receiving data and presents it on its user interface. MC is a MCU (MicroControl Unit)application system. It is primarily interactive with ETACS product. When MC receives a test command, it analyses the test command and then tests the product according to specific procedure, after test finished, it returns the acquisition data to PC.After putting this automatic test system in use in ETACS production line, the operational result demonstrates: the design is reasonable, the various technical targets are fulfilled, and this system meets the system design requirements and gets a good effect.
