Online Elective Courses In Management System Design And Implementation

This article discusses the design and realization of a web teaching and administrating system for elective courses. At first, the article discusses the difficulties of the elective courses in our college. Such as the classrooms assignment, the students'elective course study time conflict with their normal study time. The administrating and teaching environment difficulties of elective courses. Then we discuss how the web teaching system could dissolve all this problems. In the design, the students don't need to be at the classroom in a assigned time, the teacher upload his multimedia teaching material on his teaching schedule. The students can study whenever they are free. Even when they are not in the college they can continue their study without any suspending. The system will record the procedure automatically. So the teaching administrators could check it at any time. And another advantage of the system is that it doesn't need almost any hardware investment. If we use the advantage of the system, we must could improve our teaching and administrating levels of our elective courses.The article discusses the demands of its three main users: students, teachers and administrators. What the students need is selecting courses, studying on line, uploading his works, checking his studying records and work scores, seeing teaching notice and etc. The teachers demand is setting up a course, uploading his teaching files, downloading the students'works and uploading the scores, releasing his teaching notices, checking the teaching progress and the students'studying and so on. What the administrators need is authorizing the teachers application for setting up a new course, allowing students joining the course, checking the progresses and studying of the elective courses, releasing notices and etc.At present, ASP.NET is one of the main tools used to develop Web System. The article discusses the features of the ASP.NET, and lay special stress on the techniques of accessing database based on ADO.NET. And at last it give a concrete realization under Visual Studio 2003 ASP.NET.
