The rise and prevalence of television has led the world into an age of mass culture symbolized by visual images. In the 21st Century, children grow up in an environment where television has become an indispensable part of their lives. CCTV-Children started broadcasting on December 28, 2003, unveiling China's specialization of children's television. With dozens of regional and provincial children's TV channels starting operations successively within two years, China's children television is growing into an unprecedented prosperity. However, China's specialization of children's television is still at its early stage, groping for more progress in both overall operation and practical production. Thus, the development of children's TV channels is faced with a number of problems, concerning children's television concepts and practice, which is the focus of this thesis. Based on a classification and discussion about the problems of the children's TV channels, this thesis addresses these problems from the perspectives of television theories, children's television communication concepts, children's receptive pattern of information and the overall setting of children's television in China, etc., with an effort to provide possible solutions and suggestions on how to further develop the children's TV channels in China. The thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 provides a literature review and expounds the academic value of the current research; Chapter 2 introduces and describes the backgrounds and current situations of the children's TV channels in China; Chapter 3 summarizes and interprets the abstract, concrete, apparent and latent problems of the children's TV channels; Chapter 4 explores the causes of these problems; Chapter 5 puts forward a few possible solutions and suggestions to the above listed problems.
