Laser ranging is one important subject to be studied in science and technology of national defence.The first ,this paper analyzes the principle of several kinds of laser range finders that currently in use, such as interferometry laser measurement, pulse laser measurement, phase laser measurement, trigonometry laser measurement, feedback laser measurement and discusses their technological advantages and disadvantages of several kinds of laser range finders. in view of the problem affected by single- chip inherent feature, integrating the goodness of TDC device and single-chip, using the high resolution of TDC and the strong control of single-chip, a measurement system is worked out.The kernel of system is the chip of TDC-GP1.The system utilize single-chip brings to success of laser ranging.The chip of time to Digital Converter is made in Germany. The TDC are based on CMOS processors. The resolution that can actually be achieved is in the range of 30ps ~300ps depending on the semiconductor process used .The GP1 achieve it's 250 ps in 2 channel mode or it's 125ps in High Resolution Mode. Just like any other chip, a TDC is not characterized by it's "key features' alone such as for instance it's resolution but also by various other characteristics such as it's usability, it's flexibility regarding applications, it's smooth integration into available circuits, etc.The aim of this paper insteads of the schism orthodox component with TDC chip and designs the whole machine control of laser range finders and the circuit of information management. And it has larger scale , higher speed higher differentiate,and smaller error.It can cut short the scale of circuit and miniaturize range finder and reduce the cost of whole machine.It has important practical sense to improves the credibility,agility and adaptablity of system,and shortens the exploiture cycle.simultaneity,it designs temperature testing function for achieving the temperature expiation to have a more accurate result. in addition,to settle nonlinerity problem,this paper gives a way of demarcating the measuring system and improve the measuring precision.
