City water supply monitor system plays important role in city water supply enterprise. It belongs to the family of SCADA (supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems which is supported by automatic control technology, communication technology and computer technology. The SCADA system is used to convey electrical signal outputted by sensor or other equipments to ground station by wireless, and then restores the signals to the original state. The system allows supervisors to manage the remote equipments in real-time. SCADA system is widely used in water supply, power supply, fuel gas supply and oil fiels etc. In the case of the water supply company, SCADA system helps the supervisor to collect the data and send the command remotely on water pipe network and water mill. The topology of a SCADA comprises the following elements: remote RTU, communication protocol, datalink, the necessary hardware and software in monitoring center. The development of SCADA can be concluded as fourth generation, each possesses substantial improvements both in the hardware and software compared with the previous one. Now, the fourth generation permits a complete integration within the network by using intelligent RTU and advanced protocol. This thesis discusses the design and implement of city water supply monitor system in Zhongshan,Guangdong. It includes three parts: RTU distributed on city water pipe, first-level monitor centre in headquaters, second-level monitor centre in water mill. The RTU transmits water pressure from sensors to monitor centre over a wireless system using a negotiated communication protocol. At the same time, second-level monitor centre uploads the real-time data to first-level centre from water mill. Supervisor use monitor software to control the situation of the whole water pipe by the data received from RTU and Second-level monitor centre. The thesis also analyses the situation of city water supply and the requirements of the monitoring system, with an overview of the design of system topology architecture, choice of hardware and software design. The emphasis is put on the design and implementation of system software.
