Data warehousing and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) are two of the newest technologies in the database area. A data warehouse can be defined as a "very large" repository of historical data pertaining to an organization. OLAP refers to the technique of performing complex analysis.Just as Entity-Relation model is the foundation of OLTP application, OLAP has data cube model as its foundation. How to define a data model and the computation over it for a data cube, is the core problem to implement an OLAP application successfully. Therefore, it is a very useful practice to realize a data cube with RDBMS technologies.After introduction of basic concepts and characteristics of data warehouse and OLAP, the paper presents a conceptual model of data cube. Finally, the paper introduces a physical model of data cube with RDBMS technologies. Also the paper discusses its design and implementation with detail.
