Nowadays, multimedia is widely used in thousands of families. And the digital picture process technique is becoming gradually mature, and is widely applied in the field of picture communication. The IC can implement the function of picture encoding and decoding, which is regarded as one of most important technique in multimedia application and is becoming the research focus. Meanwhile the picture transmission system based on GPRS wireless network is becoming of great application value.Under this background, the destination of this paper is to design an IP core in the FPGA which can implement the JPEG encoding. Based on this IP core, the GPRS remote picture supervision system designation is implemented.This IP core is based on the IP modules offered by XILINX ISE. And it is used to accomplish a whole colorful picture JPEG encoding. With the reasonable use of the hardware resource and the efficient use of the parallel arithmetic, this IP core can increase the speed of picture compression and reduce the amount of logic unit.The default image is 352x288 in this IP core design. And it can implement 24 frames per second compression speed in Virtex II XC2V1000-4@40MHz FPGA. The IP core and its all modules have been logically integrated and its function and time sequence have been imitated on the ISE6.2 floor offered by EDA tools from XILINX Corp. The result shows that this IP core use less FPGA hardware resource, and approach higher working efficiency. It proves the better state of higher speed and less resource use, and can meet the JPEG encoding at the same time. This IP core can be embedded in CMOS sensor, and then it can have the original picture sensor with the compression function, and it can also be embedded in the moving video frequency compression chip to implement the JPEG encoding function.Based on this IP core, this paper implements a remote picture supervision system based on GPRS. The key points of this system are to implement flush type terminal (picture terminal) with picture collection, compression and transmission. The picture collection uses the CMOS sensor with 352x288 pixel with FPGA picture compression and collection, and then transmits to MCU. With MCU. TCP/IP and GPRS wireless module help, encoded jpeg picture can be transmitted to certain domain name and IP address server, the server can receive this picture, and store it into the database, and then show it by web browser. All these processes form a complete picture supervision system project.Based on GPRS wireless network, the picture supervision system has a wide application value.
