With the rapid evolution of image compression, network transmission and electron technique, Embedded image monitoring system has became a new developing hotspot. In the dissertation, the principle and implementation of embedded picture monitoring system based on GPRS are discussed.The system consists of the monitoring center and the monitoring terminal, and they are connected through the Internet and GPRS network .The monitoring center sets up the control procedure with picture interface on the PC and has the function of monitoring of image.The monitoring terminal is embedded system that consists of TMS320VC -5402 and other interface. The embedded system adopts embedded OS μC/OS-Ⅱ so that the development of software is more convenient .And it is connected to the Internet through a GPRS modem.This text overviews composition and domestic and international development trends of picture monitoring system at first. Introducing each standard of Image compression and coding,explaining in detail FGS, and on the basis of its improving algorithm which have priority to coding to the interested area in order to adapt to the change of the bandwidth of network in chapter two. Introducing the knowledge of GPRS network and PPP procotol in detail in chapter three. In chapter four recommending the detailed design of each sector of terminal hardware, and the hardware anti-interference measure taken. Telling embedded design of software , transplanting μC/OS-Ⅱ and programming , designing the embedded procotol inn - EmIP which is fit for this system, and recommending how to communicate through Socket between the monitoring center and the monitoring terminal in chapter five.
