SAN(Storage Area Network)is a high speed network which is familiar with normal LAN(Local Area Network). It is established with hubs, switches and gateways connected to the storage devices. Based on the technology of SAN, making the storage devices isolate from the servers and produce the storage network contrast to the computers network. The deep analysis and simulation of the switch fabrics in SAN and relative schedule algorithms were done in this paper. In the chapter 1 the basic knowledge of SAN was introduced. Fiber channel is the most common protocol in the data transmission of SAN. Fiber channel is a special technology which is different from the Ethernet. FCP is a communication pattern which is different from traditional IP communication also engross line communication and is used to carry SCSI data through handshake pattern in SAN . On the other hand, the packet of FCP is not the invariable length packet but also different from the traditional variable length packet. Because of the special communication mode of the FCP, the work of analysis was done in chapter 2. Because the switches based on FCP is the kernel devices of SAN. Which fabric is the best one for the FCP communication? It need deeply research because the domestic research work is very absent and the foreign products have the main marketing share. Through the researching and comparing the VOQ Crossbar, share memory and the one of two dimensional fabric, the experiment result would show the reasonable conclusion. In the chapter 3 , the VOQ Crossbar and share memory fabrics were analyzed . One kind of two dimensional fabric was analyzed in chapter 4.In chapter 5 the works of simulation are described in detail and the conclusion was made in chapter 6.
