Because of the development of economy and the improvement of life standard, video surveillance system is widely used in the security and safeguarding, information retrieval, dispatching and so on. The video surveillance system is comprised of video kinescope, monitoring center and so on. Video data storage is one of the most important things in the video surveillance system. The user can design a storage scheme according to the number of camera and video stream. The requirements of video storage are a tremendous increase with the development of video surveillance area.Virtual Storage which comes out in the 1970's is developing with the computer technology. Virtual storage can facilitate the usage of massive storage system, reduce the management cost, optimize its performance and increase its efficiency. It provides many kinds of effective video storage solution for the video surveillance system.After surveying the developing status of virtual storage and digital video surveillance system at home and abroad, we analyzed the technology of virtual storage and the requirements of digital video surveillance system in the Wide Area Network, then applied one of the virtual storage technologies in the digital video surveillance system.The work and contribution are listed as following:1. After having analyzed the differences between the tradition storage technology and virtual storage technology, we proposed that virtual storage should be applied to video surveillance system in order to meet the requirements of video data storage in the video surveillance system.2. According to the current requirements of digital video surveillance system, we proposed to apply iSCSI SAN in the digital video surveillance system.3. We designed a solution of the storage system in the video surveillance system. Encoder writes data block to the disk sector. It resolves the problem of the general file system in storing data and satisfies the requirements of high capacity and speed in the video surveillance system. And we also designed a solution which can make storage scheme for the camera. It can economize lots of storage resource.Finally, the dissertation is concluded with a summary and prospect of future researches of digital video surveillance system.
