Design And Implementation Of San Management Software

Storage Area Network (SAN) provides a firm fundament for increasing data storage request. Compare with tradition network, storage area network is more complex and less manageable, the ability to provide effective network management system is very important and urgent.In order to provide a new and effective network management system, author makes an overall research. Firstly author analyses the tradition network management notion and summarize the defect according to the characteristics of storage area network. Secondly author proposes new network management principle and software architecture. Base on new network management principles and software architecture, author designs and fulfills a storage area network management system-SMS.SMS (Storage Management System) is based on FOAL (Fiber Channel Arbitrated Loop), and adopts C/S software module. SMS provides many functions such as: integral storage management, integral data sharing, dynamic data replication, remotely data replication, state monitor, performance analysis, performance optimization, etc.Software engineering principle is used when designing SMS, and divides SMS to server and client two parts. Benefit from agent technology, SMS introduced client management module between SMS server and SMS/browser, and introduced storage processing module between SMS server and storage device.Allowing for SMS server, SMS client management module and SMS storage processing module are running on the same machine, IPC mechanism is used to perform process communication to improve communication speed. Up to now, SMS has finishing design, and has already released oversea and achieves a good economic benefit.With the development of network, data storage technology and storage area network will be widely used in different aspect. The further research of data storage technology and storage area network will have great theoretical value, economic worth and broad application future.
