As the development of video compress coding, flow media technology and network communication technology, digital video collecting system exhibits strong vitality. It replaces the analog collecting system generally. The video collecting system with embedded video server becomes the focus of development. Its advantages include small size, low power consumption, fast processing speed, good real-time property, stable performance, easy to install, no extra devices and no territory restriction.The design of network video collecting system proposed in this thesis is based on embedded hardware developing platform with Motorola MCF5272 chipset as center chipset, and uCLinux as embedded system as software developing platform. After collecting video data through a USB camera, the system compresses the data in JPEG picture format and MPEG-4 video format. Then with the embedded Web Server and Streaming Server, it establishes connection with client in C/S mode, which enables the client to view the video through browser or normal media player remotely. This prospect of this design is good.This thesis describes customization and tailoring on uClinux based on the property of embedded video collecting system. The design also adds support to SL811HST chipset and adds driver. These skills are of great value to application development of embedded video process in Linux.This design uses APIs from Video4Linux library of Linux to program a video collecting module which fits embedded system. The module is proved to be feasible, stable and transplantable. The module can be implemented in this design as well as other applications of video process. With slight modification, it can also be used in video audio devices.The transport technology of this design includes Web Server mode and Streaming Server mode. Configuration and test method of both the two modes are valuable to future research and implementation of embedded video collecting system.
