The Development Of The Embedded Video Server Based On VxWorks

In recent years, with the rapid development of the network and multimedia technology, there exist more and more applications related with network video. For example, the trend in video monitoring is digital, networking, and intelligent. Remote video monitoring over I nternet networks becomes more and more popular. It transforms the analog signals into digital signals and use Internet networks to carry the monitoring functions anywhere and anytime. The core of the Internet networking based video monitoring system is the video capturing device, which can be directly connected to the Ethernet and provides the functions of real-time video capturing, encoding, and transferring. This paper focuses on the research and development of a general-purpose web video capturing device to meet the neesds of applications.The device is developed based on an embedded hardware platform and the embedded VxWorks OS. The advanced MPEG-4 standard is adopted. The functions of the build-in streaming server is designed and implemented. The resulting device can be simply plugged into the Ethernet interface to capture video pictures in real-time and to stream it over the Internet. Because of simplicity I usage it has good prospect in applications.The research done in this thesis work includes the follows: study of the network video technologies, design of the embedded Vxworks system, development of video capturing and MPEG-4 encoding under Vxworks, development of network transfer functions and the porting to the embedded platform. Finally, function testing and performance evaluation are carried out on the prototype. The future research topics are also discussed.
