Fire is a disaster that often happens and is popularly concerned in the world. With the development of economy, modern buildings demand better fire-fighting alarm and monitoring systems. With high-speed development of information technology, embedded technology has been widely used. Embedded system is suitable for the applications what are strict with function, reliability, cost, size and consumption. Embedded system includes two parts, one is embedded hardware, and one is embedded operating system and application program. To meet the application demand, we should design appropriate embedded hardware and embedded operating system. This paper introduces a centralized system of fire-fighting alarm and monitoring, which is based on embedded system. The paper particularly discusses the design and realization of two kinds of embedded operating system kernels, one is non-preemptive kernel , and the other is preemptive kernel. The preemptive kernel is a Real-Time Operating System kernel. Then it introduces how to realize the design of the hardware system, interface driver and application program, and how to combine the embedded operating system with the hardware system to realize the centralized system of fire-fighting alarm and monitoring. At last, the system has been tested on the spot, and the testing result proves that the system has realized the function of remote controlling and monitoring. And the index of performance of the system has achieved designing demands. So the system has broad practical value. The centralized system of fire-fighting alarm and monitoring has formally put into practical use in the Electron Communication Building of UESTC.
